I am Sebastian Dan, a professional medical illustrator and the Senior Editor of ConstipationGUIDE.com. I am also a patient who has lived through every stage of chronic constipation. Since 2017, I have navigated the daily physical and emotional burden of this condition. I created this platform because I realized that while doctors provide the "what," they often lack the time to explain the "how" and the "feel" of recovery.
My Mission: Bridging the Gap Between Patient and Practitioner
At ConstipationGUIDE, I believe that healing begins with understanding. As Senior Editor, I oversee the integrity of our content, ensuring every article is clear, evidence-based, and medically reviewed. As a Medical Illustrator, I transform complex gastroenterological data into visual guides that make the intricate anatomy of the gut accessible to everyone.
By combining professional editorial oversight with high-fidelity medical visualization, I provide the readers with the tools they need to navigate their health with confidence and clarity.
The Expert-Patient Perspective
My transition from sufferer to Expert-by-Experience began with a decade of documented personal health management. I have not only studied the clinical data; I have felt it. I understand the specific, heavy pressure of chronic bloating, the sharp anxiety that precedes a colonoscopy, and the physical "reset" that follows a bowel preparation.
Because I have undergone these procedures myself, I can describe the sensory reality of the patient journey (from the cold, clinical setting of a diagnostic suite to the internal physical sensations of motility issues) in ways that standard medical textbooks cannot. I exemplify the patient journey because I have lived it in all its forms, making me uniquely qualified to translate clinical jargon into empathetic, actionable visual guides.
Bridging Art and Gastroenterology
As an illustrator, I recognized that many people fail to find relief because medical explanations are often too abstract. To solve this, I partnered with Gastroenterologist Horia Marculescu, MD. We work in a "dual-review" system: I bring the patient’s sensory experience and visual clarity, while Dr. Marculescu provides the clinical guardrails.
I hope that our partnership ensures our content meets the highest standards from both perspectives: the patient and the medical reviewer. We don't just tell you to change your diet; we show you how that change affects your internal physiology through evidence-based illustrations.
My Credentials & Professional Standards
- Professional Medical Illustrator: Over a decade of experience translating complex health concepts into accessible visual media.
- Clinical Patient Advocate: Nearly 10 years of documented experience managing chronic constipation and navigating gastroenterological procedures (including colonoscopies and motility testing).
- Evidence-Based Method: Every guide is built on peer-reviewed studies, cited using the Harvard Style, and integrated within our source code for full transparency.
- Medical Oversight: Dr. Horia Marculescu, MD, serves as the final medical authority, fact-checking every illustration and clinical recommendation to ensure it aligns with current gastroenterological standards.
I believe that preventing digestive issues through informed, visual education is safer and more effective than reactive treatment. My mission is to ensure you never have to navigate the "isolated" feeling of chronic constipation without a clear, medically verified map.
